Fishing in Gran Canaria
Enjoy a thrilling day of sport fishing in Gran Canaria leaving from the Pasito Blanco pier, located between Maspalomas and Puerto Rico, or from Puerto Base dock in Puerto Rico. You can come alone or with friends, can share the boat with other clients or can rent the entire boat in order to go deep sea fishing in Gran Canaria on a private charter.
The abundance of fish in Gran Canaria allows us to fish all year round. In the autumn and winter, it’s common to catch fish such as snappers, groupers, mackerel, seabass, eels, morays and blacktail combers.
And in spring and summer, the current brings in blue marlin, white marlin, yellowfin, longfin, spearfish, bluefin, big eye, skipjack tunas and dorados. In addition, we can fish for small tuna (from 25 to 30 kilos) throughout almost the entire year (February to November) and for large tuna (up to 400 kilos) from March to May.
The boats on which we will enjoy this experience are 11 metres long and more than 4.5 metres wide, which allows us to take up to 10 people on the same trip. In fact, each fisherman will have his or her own rod. You can come with other fishermen, or with companions who don’t want to fish but who want to share the experience of a fishing charter boat in Gran Canaria.
If you are an expert fisherman, you already know the unique sensation of big game fishing, and if you aren’t, you will have the opportunity to experience it on our journey. Don’t worry if you don’t have any experience, since we will teach you how to fish and will give you all the instructions you need before and during the catch.
Even though the fish aren’t guaranteed, the 25 years of experience of the boat captains and their crews make it highly likely that you’ll be able to find and catch fish.
During the cruise, we can switch from total calm, from the tranquillity of a relaxing boat ride, to complete excitement as a fish takes the bait. Depending on the type of fish you’re catching, the catching manoeuvre can last between 10 minutes and 2 hours, with maximum concentration to get your reward.
But there are other surprises that can impress you as you go deep sea fishing in Gran Canaria. Although whales are occasionally seen, with their unmistakeable spout, it’s common for us to be surrounded by pods of dolphins for part of our trip. They are so close to us that it even seems that you could take a selfie with them.
And the views of the coast of Gran Canaria—particularly the beaches and the spectacular hotels are other attractions that complement the excursion.
In short, we will offer maximum opportunities for sport fishing in Gran Canaria so that you can enjoy fishing for marlin, tuna and many other fish while you discover other attractions in this area of the Canaries.
Fishing boats
Due to the high demand for fishing trips and the limited number of places on the boats, we work with 3 similar boats to offer, whenever possible, the spots you need on the day you want to fish.
Once you have booked, we will confirm the boat number and the pickup time.
Charters
If you want to hire a charter to go on the boat privately with a group of up to 10 people, contact us by email so we can offer you the best option that suits your needs.
Who gets the fish? What is done with the catch?
Fish up to 5 kilos can be taken by the clients, and the crew will decide at the time whether and how to distribute fish over 5 kg among the clients. Protected species are returned to the sea in the best condition possible.
What kind of clothes should I wear?
We recommend wearing clothes suited for the weather and season. But always bring comfortable clothing, warm clothing, a hat and sunscreen.
What type of fishing will we do?
The type of fishing depends mainly on the time of year and the type of fish that can be caught at any given time. The captain will decide the type of fishing based on his experience and the fishing experience of the previous days, both by him as well as by other fishing boats in the area.
As a rule, between November and March bottom fishing is more normal, while trolling is more common between May and October.
What is the best time to fish for blue marlin?
You’ll get more chances to fish for blue marling between June and September.
Do I need a fishing license to fish?
No.
Do I need to bring fishing equipment?
No, the boat will provide everything you need to fish.
Do I need to know how to fish or have previous fishing experience?
No, in fact, for quite a few of our clients it’s their first time fishing.
The crew will teach you, give you instructions and help you so that you can fish like a pro.
Can I rent the boat to go only with my group?
Yes, contact us well in advance and we’ll give you all the information (available days and times, price, pick-up information, type of fishing).
What boat does the fishing trip take place in?
We have three very similar boats to offer as many seats as possible. Two of them are located at the Puerto Base dock in Puerto Rico and the other is docked at the Pasito Blanco dock.
Once the reservation is made, we’ll give you all the information about the boat, and where it’s located.
If you’ve booked with the pick-up option, the ship’s captain will contact you to tell you the pick-up time.
