Excursion to Arucas, Firgas, and Puerto de Agaete from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria
Discover, on this day trip from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, three of the most beautiful villages on the island, the highest cliffs in Europe, and the only coffee plantation with European certicate of origin.
Travel comfortably in small groups accompanied by an official guide who will inform you about the highlights of the excursion, as well as about the island in general.
The first stop of the excursion is in the historic centre of the city of Arucas.
We will begin our visit to Arucas by seeing its main attraction, the Church of San Juan Bautista, popularly known as the Cathedral of Arucas due to its impressive Neo-Gothic façade.
In Arucas, we will enter the Casa de la Cultura so that you can see a traditional 17th-century Canarian house. The house is organized around its inner courtyard, which features a huge Canarian dragon tree and wooden balconies on the second floor, characteristic of Canarian architecture.
To conclude our tour of Arucas, we will take a leisurely walk through the Municipal Park, also known as Gouríe Park. This park is one of the city’s most enchanting spots and serves as the true green lung of Arucas.
Throughout the tour, we will encounter numerous banana plantations, which are typical of northern Gran Canaria. We will stop at one of these plantations so that the guide can show you the intriguing methods used to cultivate bananas.
In the town of Firgas, you will have time to explore its historic centre and admire its main tourist attractions along a steep street divided into two sections. In the lower part, on the Paseo de Gran Canaria, you will find its impressive 30-metre-long fountain, designed in the shape of a waterfall.
Next to the fountain, take notice of the benches and heraldic shields representative of the 21 municipalities of the Canary Islands. Their mosaics bear a striking resemblance to those found in the Plaza de España in Seville.
At the top of the street, slightly above the fountain, on the Paseo de Canarias, observe the mosaics, reliefs, and representative shields of each island in the Canary Islands.
On the way to Puerto de Agaete, we will make a stop in the town of Guía, where you will have two options to choose from: 1. Enjoy a tasting of Canarian cheese (not included in the price), or 2. Take a stroll through the old town of the village.
From Puerto de Agaete, you will appreciate the highest cliffs in Europe, known as the “Tail of the Dragon,” where the peak of Faneque stands out, reaching a height of 1,027 meters.
At Puerto de Agaete, you will have an hour of free time to stroll through its streets, have lunch at some of its restaurants overlooking the sea, or discover one of the most beautiful natural pools on the island.
Our last significant stop on the tour takes us to the Agaete Valley, home to the world’s northernmost coffee plantation, where the only European coffee with certificate of origin is produced. Learn at the Berrazales farm how coffee is cultivated and processed before sitting down with the rest of the group to taste the coffee produced on the farm.
From the farm, you’ll also take in the breathtaking vistas of the stunning Agaete Valley, providing the perfect finale to our excursion.
We hope that, upon concluding the excursion, you will leave with the feeling of having enjoyed a fantastic day exploring some of the most beautiful, impressive, and representative places in the north of Gran Canaria.
